Bedroom makeover

Slowly but surely bits are coming together. Today I managed to turn my little cushion thoughts into little cushion reality.

Sorry for the picture overload, but I am just so in love with these cushions!! LOVE!!

Oh and I had to move the bed last weekend as we had guests and had to make way for a ready bed, I did hang my frame in the centre, I swear. I clean forgot until I saw these pics, lol.

I may have gone and done it.

Every year I choose a special Birthday dress for K. It is given to her as part of her gift. And in the world of Kirsten, a pretty dress may be one of the best gifts there is.

This year, I am going to attempt to make this very special dress.

But in planning to do so I may have made a fatal error.

I have resisted the temptation for the year and a half that I have been sewing.

I am afraid that I may have unleashed a beast, have started on a slippery slope.

I will whisper just two words

At least I can remember what I bought it for!

In the haze.

I am thankfully feeling a lot better today. Still not 100% but somewhat human. I have been able to climb back onto the Hamster Wheel and it feels oh so good.

It is nice to be sat at my kitchen table again , instead of laying on the couch. A warm drink in my hand and a tub of grapes (replacing the biscuits) for some snacking while I read through my blog list.

I have been unable to sleep the past few nights, not being able to breathe if I was anything but bolt upright, kind of made it tricky to tip myself into slumberland. So as I lay there trying to drift away, my silly silly brain starts thinking of all the fun projects I could get up to. I am at my most creative while I can't do anything about it! I then feel a little cheated when life gets back to normal and I don't ever find the time to do these "amazing" projects.

Apparently at some point in this haze, I decided upon an ingenious project. I am sure it was something that just popped into my head. Like a lightbulb going off!

 I probably pressed and stitched every seam in my mind , all the while wishing I was able to jump up and get going.

I really should sleep with a notepad by the bed. I really should have written down this idea. Because for the life of me I can't remember what it was! It had to be a corker though, because I just received an email to say that the 3 metres of medium weight , white, iron - on ,fusible interfacing that I ordered, has been shipped. Ha ha ha! I have no recollection of ordering this! But there it is. In My ebay, paid for through paypal and everything!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I may have been creating in my crazy sick person haze??

Lying low

I'm sick. Again.

I have been more sick this autumn/winter than I have been for a long time. This time it's tracheitis and not tonsilitis. You know, just for a wee change.

I've been doing lots of laying on the couch under my quilt that I FINALLY finished!

Probably some master quilter would have a fit if they stumbled across this quilt!

I wanted it to be completely random but  co ordinating. I made it up as I went along.

But is is so warm, comfortable and it looks ever so cheerful, don't you think?

Lying on the couch all day leaves plenty of time for catching up on everyone else's blogs and even adding some new ones to my list.

Hopefully I'll have something to write about soon.

Oh and I think I have decided on a name for my new girl .............

..................................... 79 sleeps until Christmas! (oh yeah baby!!) , my mind is starting to turn towards gifts and christmas projects. I will need to get started soon if I want to get it all done!

Getting anything done would be a bonus! When I set out to do Stashbusting september , I didn't realise that September would be my busiest months of the year! So I only completed 2 of my 20 or so project target. Ah well. Theres always next september!

I thought I would offer up some ideas that I have used for gifts in the past and also some of the great gifts I have received! Just in case you were trawling the internet for inspiration (like I am ;-) )

For the little people in your life

Little shopping bags, I usually put a colouring book, a matching crayon roll, a story book, some sweets, bubbles or some hair clippies/bows.

My favourite go - to for children's gifts. A hoodie towel, using Deanna's tutorial

Dolly! I made Dolly using the tutorial from Black apple. I also used the idea as inspiration to make

 little kitties to go in K's birthday party bags. You could make virtually any animal and turning it from a girly gift to an anyone gift. Who doesn't love a little snuggle buddy?

A felt mask, this one was also for K's pussycat party but these could be superhero masks or any animal. Felt is cheap and easy to sew with so I think these may make a few appearences this Christmas!

Oilcloth lunch bag. I made this using a tutorial from Skip to my Lou

A snuggly patchwork pillow, I made this for K but I think it would be a lovely gift for any little boy or girl. Maybe team it with a fleecy blanket and one of your favourite children's book. Great for some post Christmas snuggles.

A taggy blanket is fairly self explanatory. Great for giving to the really little people in your life. I am sure their parents will thank you for the lack of batteries included!

This has turned into a fairly epic post, so I will continue with some other gift ideas this weekend. Some for the grown ups too.

For now I had better get myself into the shower, I am sat here in my PJs and I start work in 30 mins! oops!

Does anyone know where I can buy me some time?  The Hamster Wheel seems to be in fast forward at the moment and I am running as fast as I can!! Everything is good though, it is nice to be busy at work and I love what I do, it is just making my life very full at the moment LOL.

Here and there I am finding moments for myself, some evenings if I can keep my eyes open, I am attempting to make myself a little quilt. I am going for a "random" look and have no idea how it will turn out as I am making it up as I go along! LOL

Do you ever make something for someone and think "ooh I love that fabric!" wish it was mine!" ? I do it quite often , so I have decided to use up all of my favourite fabrics in my very own snuggle quilt.

Mmmm yummy.

The rose applique is from K's very first bedding set, so I am looking forward to having it forever.

I do love my life, even though it is crazy busy at the moment. Even though, in one day, last week I clipped 3 children in and out of car seats 16 seperate times! 

 I love all of those children I love being able to collect K every day from Nursery, I love being home to see my boy walking in the door from school and make him peanut butter sandwiches.

And I am the luckiest Auntie in the world, because two days of my week are filled with moments like this

For the month of September I have committed to taking part in




 This means that I can buy no crafty stuff but instead I use all of the stash I have lying around. I am terrible for starting projects and not finishing them, buying stuff and then never actually using it, so this is perfect for me.

Here is my mess stash and my "crafting area" which is a cluttered mess at the moment, but once I get the worktop built and some shelves up it will be much better.

It is Sept 9th and this is my first post. So typical! But in my defence I have had zero crafting time.

BUT on Tuesday afternoon I found myself home alone for a whole 3.5 hours! wow! So I set to work on my first stashbusting project.

I had my companion with me of course!

 ***yawn***

Now, all of my family and friends know to give me first offer of any clothing they are getting rid of. I am quite partial to stuffing it in my crafting area and never using it  cutting it up and making something new!

This top was given to me by my sister in law, Beebs. She was getting rid of it as she has lost so much weight it no longer fits (go Beebs!) I knew she loved it so I decided to  make it into a bag for her to take on holiday when she goes at the end of the month.

I simply cut the straps at the top seam and lined lined it with black fabric.

I loved this detail on the front so I just left the top part as it was and and made some matching handles to join on to what used to be the straps.

I turned my back for one second!

 I cut a little of the length off so I had some of thepatterned fabric to use to make a fabric flower, I hot glued some pearls into the centre

 and voila!

A beach bag.

Of course part way through this process everyone returned home! They all piled into the bedroom and we watched Christmas Vacation and chatted as I worked. Did you know it was so much easier to sew when the curtains are closed and a four year old is in the bed you were using as a workspace??

But I wouldnt have it any other way.

You are my Sunshine

I made a little sunshine for K. Something that has a little of me sewn into it for her to wear to nursery. Something to complement the beautiful autumn colours that will soon be around us.

"Sunshine on a cool windy day" was going to be my title for this post. But.... well, unusually, K was  in a less than sunny mood!

The fabric used to be a pillowcase that I picked up in the bargain corner at IKEA.

Stashbustin'

I am always ALWAYS starting/planning crafty projects but never finishing them. I came across a great idea on another blog (Atelier Caroline)

It is time for a little Stashbustin' in Septmenber!







I will not be allowed to buy any fabric or crafty accessories. I must use only things I have on hand and finally, FINALLY finish off all of those projects that I have started, or have just bought fabric for!

I am super excited, I like a challenge! Although it is a little daunting! Because I am so bad at not finishing anything, the number of projects on my to - do list have already run into the teens! !

Am I allowed to buy time during September??

This will also leave me guilt free and with an empty cupboard to concentrate on all of my fun Christmas crafting ! And seeing as I wont have much stash left, maybe a little shopping wll be in order......................

I've been busy

See what happens when you aren't being a showbiz mum?? LOL I actually got time to sit down at my sewing machine!

I actually made this a couple of weeks ago but havent had time until now to take pics. I used this tutorial from A pretty cool life and made a little camera bag. It is such a good idea for me as I tend to take my camera everywhere, along with a whole lot of other junk that just gets thrown in my bag. This keeps my camera dust/crumb free and safe. I love this blog, I drool over and adore the fabrics used in it. Dreamy!

I also tried my hand at making a dress for K. This one was \made from scratch , using this tutorial from li'l blue boo.

I have never tried anything like this before, so I am super happy with the results. It is a little big, but K was in bed when I made it so I had to use another dress for measurements. I am sure she will grow into it.

And she loves it, which is all that matters to me.

I will definitely be trying this one again.
