Sunday in memory lane

I wish you could have seen the leaves. They were just constantly fluttering around us like it was snowing.
Magical.

Only one duck, but he scored! All of the yummy biscuit all to himself.

I used to go here as a child while spending days with my Grandparents, my sister and I would walk to the local estate to feed the ducks and walk through the trees.. When I was around 13 we moved to a different area and I haven't been back since. What a wonderful trip down memory lane. I think this is the first of many trips back to one of my favourite places.

Easy like a Sunday morning.....

.. was going to be the inspiration for my post this Sunday. It has been a few weeks since I have been able to link up with
Unknown Mami

I haven't even had time to catch up with everyone's posts. So this weekend I decided that we would have a lovely, easy and lazy Sunday morning.

Well last night my Princess didn't really sleep well. She then was up and at 'em far too early. She was also in a crazy mood. This usually spells trouble! Funny , yes. Lively, yes. Easy and lazy? No!
Eventually I begged Daddy to take her out for a bike ride so she could burn off some energy, she is a spirited girl and on crazy days like these, a bike ride is a fool proof plan! I got to snuggle back in and catch up on some of the sleep I missed in the night time.

When I woke up, no one was home. Almost 2 hours later?? Hmm even in a crazy mood, this girl couldn't peddle for 2 hours.

Then they arrived home in Grandad's car. I guessed they had just popped in for a visit.
Wrong! They had made an emergency trip to Granny's house for some first aid!

My poor chicken had had a little accident, on crazy days her balance and stability are just not as good as usual and yep you guessed it, a face plant occurred.

Her very first fat lip!

So much for an easy Sunday morning, poor girl.

Sorry I have nothing else to share, We did head out this afternoon to a car boot sale, our poor version of a yard sale. I did manage to score some bargains though! A little more on that tomorrow.

But for now we are off to eat some ice cream.

For medical reasons of course!

so far so good

Well, the dreaded last day came. I cried. A lot.

Here is my boy, walking from his school, for the last time.

So now with the sadness behind me, we can move on to our summer of fun.

Starting with a night away for Mummy and Daddy (yay!) and a sleepover at Granny Mary and Grandad Jimmy's (aka Jimbo) house, for the kids.

We had us some summer fun!

Music

Outdoor table tennis and the green string you can see is the "badminton net" that Jimbo set up for Fraser and I.

My Dad has also made a golf hole in the middle of his grass , so they can play putting

A hole in one for Jimbo!!

All the while being serenaded by our wee star

And even in the summer , at Granny Mary's house, a cup of tea is never far away

Sunshine and family time

Survivors - the update

I am thrilled to say that our little feathered friends are not only surviving, but also thriving! It has been a tense week! I have been so scared that something would happen to our little birdies after they were exposed last week !

I have felt such a responsibility towards them as it is 100% our fault that they are so open to predators! I have been providing them with lots of food , so the parents don't have to go too far away from the nest.

Even so , the babies must be drawing attention to themselves as I have had to chase a cat and a big crow, away from the nest!

Murray sneaked a photo on Thursday, they had little fluffy mohawks!

So cute!

Daddy black bird was not impressed! He gave Murray a warning swoop! Just clearing the top of Murray's head!

We have done a little research and it seems that blackbirds are exceptionally caring parents. They wont abandon their nests, when it is time for the babies to leave the nest, they stay on in the tree with Daddy there for protection while Mummy goes to set up the nest for the next lot if eggs. They wont force the babies to move on and allow them to do so in their own time. So sweet.

We also found out that the babies will take up to 14 days to reach the stage where they will leave the nest, but can do so as early as 9 days if they feel they are in danger.

So with this in mind we sneaked close for one more peek. It  may be our last as it is 7 days since we discovered them.

And yesterday we found this through the branches!

wow!! Don't they grow fast?? you can see their eyes and beaks!!

I wish them well out there in the big bad world, I hope they will stay close by and we will do all we can to help them.

A Mother's love

Today,I have a wee story to tell. One that could have had a very different ending!!

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day here on the east coast of Scotland. Murray decided to spend it tidying up our garden. In our front garden there is a tree / bush which I think is a conifer. It has been badly neglected as we haven't touched it since we moved in last year.

well it looks a lot worse now!

Murray set to work with the electric hedge trimmer. He went up one side and a little over the top , but stopped. He saw something move a tiny bit. It was a Mummy blackbird! Sitting on top of her nest, waiting to make the ultimate sacrifice for her babies!  The blades must have been inches from her!

Of course Murray stopped immediately! But we were worried, what if we have left them too exposed? What if we have been too close and Mummy and Daddy would abandon the nest??  We kept a close eye. We had never once seen the birds go in and out, which is why we were going to cut it.! Still no adult birds came by. We peeped in and saw 4 brand new babies nestled in there alone.

But surely a Mother who was willing to risk her own life to protect her babies would come back??

And she did! We have watched them tirelessly work, flying back and forward. Mummy and Daddy blackbird being the ultimate tag team , protecting and feeding their young.

K is especially enthralled, standing on a chair by the window, throwing bread out to help the little family.

I will follow the progress of this tiny heroic Mummy and her little family and hopefully watch them grow.

I sneaked a photo of the nest today, you can't see them well yet but they are tiny, grey and see through with a little bit of fluff!

Our tree/bush will remain this lopsided and ugly until after the nesting season! But inside it holds something so beautiful!

Happiness is .......

Sitting in my sun filled garden with my laptop, writing my Sundays in my city post and listening to the Glee soundtrack. Bliss!

Happiness is

Blossom on the apple trees that we have saved.

When we moved into our house last year we thought they wouldn't make it. But they are beginning to thrive and have rewarded us with some beautiful blossom.

Unexpected visitors in the garden

Sandy Ice cream cones

Seeing the first ladybird of the year

Ice cream straight from the tub

And precious little hands gently cradling tiny precious hands

Beautiful Sunday

"Hey hey hey it's a beautful day!"

Yesterday my sweetie was watching his favourite team play football. They are a relatively small team but their fans are passionate.

This team had made it all the way to the Scottish cup final! Which I am assured is a very big deal.
Their colours are tangerine and black
( although I will admit  it looks orange to me ;) )

Here is my very own tangerine man ready to head off to Glasgow for the big game!

He was still eating his breakfast while being papped LOL

and my Father in law who "toned it down" by wearing a black shirt ..........................
and orange and white shoes and black and orange socks lol

I am not a football fan but I have to say that I was even swept away with the excitement of the occassion. It was hard not to when my 4 year old was cheering at the TV and doing the dance taught to her by Daddy.
It was a little difficult to explain why we couldn't see Daddy on the TV, 27,000 supporters doesn't mean much to a 4 year old.

Here they are singing one of the team's anthems

spot the Daddy ;)

They won ! In an exciting 2nd half Dundee United had a very well deserved Victory! This is only the second time they have won this cup in 100 years!

Today we headed off to the fairly nearby City of Dundee, so Daddy could watch his heroes bring the cup home!

A local radio station was there to provide music for the party atmosphere and all of the teams favourites were played including Beautiful Sunday.

Kirsten's dancing was noted by a passing cameraman and she was rewarded by seeing herself strut her stuff on the big screen in front of the crowds!!

Mummy had a not so proud moment as she forgot the camera :-(

Thanks to Granny and Beebs we got a prime spot right by the barriers and we saw the team as they arrived!

Fraser got a high five from the man of the match, who scored 2 of the 3 goals yesterday.

I have to say again that I am usually not a sports person but today in the city square surrounded by thousands of people, there was a real family orientated party atmosphere and it was really quite emotional.

An occasion that 3 generations of our family enjoyed together. And that is always beautiful.
