Cupcakes and snowdrop

Last week a new cupcake shop opened in nearby St Andrews. Lor was immediately on the case and we set off with K to check it out.

K was doubly excited as we got to drive there in "Lor Lor's" new car!

Meet Snowdrop

Is this not the cutest little car EVER?! (sorry for the wheelie bin in the pic, it was collection day)

The interior is so retro, modern and super cute and just suits Lor's sweet personality down to the ground.

The shop was really nice. There wasn't a lot of choice as we got there too late, once it is gone it is gone. This is a good thing , I guess, at least we know they are all freshly made.

we ended up with 2 vanilla cupcakes, one after eight cupcake ( chocolate sponge with peppermint icing and an after eight mint on the top) and then another vanilla cupcake with chocolate sprinkles. No prizes for guessing who wanted the pink cake!

The cakes were nice, but not a patch on Lor's red velvets or vanilla cupcakes mmmmmmm

Here is K enjoying her cake in the back of snowdrop, I was frantically trying to cover her up with my coat so she didn't get sprinkles all over the interior! Not that Lor minded but I would have been gutted if we had been the first to make a mess in the new car!

We sat down by the west sands and enjoyed the sea views while we stuffed our faces   delicately nibbled on our purchases

Sorry it was freezing so you will have to look through the windscreen too :)

This week we are going to source a recipe to make the minty cakes. I will keep you posted if we find one.

In it to win it?

I have never done this before so I am not sure what I should write really.

A lot of the blogs I follow often do giveaways. I tend to avoid putting my name in as it is usually very complicated and I never ever win anything. Recently I hacve started entering the ones that you only need to leave a comment to be entered. This seems, to me,  like a good way to run a giveaway. Nice and simple.

Anyway one of the more complicated giveaways caught my eye last night. Now I have no reason to believe that this one will be any different, ie. I am sure I still wont win. But I am sorely tempted by it!

So to gain an extra entry I am to blog about the giveaway so here I am.

Please follow the link to Craftaholics anonymous  and you will see the gorgeous tote bag that is to be given away to a lucky winner! (hoping it is me :))

Also take some time to check out what this woman can do with a zipper! Very cool!

Teaching an old dog an even older trick

This weekend I have big plans! I am so excited! I am going to teach myself how to crochet! I have been thinking about it for a while and then today the deal was sealed. Sweet sweet Lollychops has been hosting a craft along this week. Although I haven't actually crafted along, I am definitely going to give it all a go!

Today she posted video tutorials of how to do the stitches to make darling little crochet flowers. Now I can see these little babies on clippies, handbags, hats, coats, just about everywhere! BUT I don't actually know how to crochet. How hard can it be right?? I am currently teaching myself how to sew so why not throw something else in there too.

I will soon have a load more projects to add to my skyscraper sized pile of unfinished projects!

Tomorrow, I am setting out nice and early to go and get supplies. I have a looooooong list of things needed from the fabric/craft store, so I will just add another couple of things on there. (ooh my original list is for a load of stuff for Fraser's drama production at school! Can't wait to show off my star!)

I would have thought that  the day couldn't look any better, right? No!! It gets even better!  I also get to go .............................................. to do all of my fabric crafty shopping .......................................................................................... ALONE!!!!!!!

Yeehaaa!  I get to concentrate on all of the yummy things on display without my sweet little touchy touchy touchersons being with me :)  I will be dropping Murray and the kidlets off at a soft play place for a couple of hours and then I am going to drool.

**Sigh** the department store even has a cookware/baking section.

I may never be seen again

I did nothing photo worthy today so I will leave you with my spring gal taking her baby for a walk one fine day

Oh One Fine day!! I LOVE that film! I am definitely going to watch that this weekend while I am crocheting myself into oblivion!

One for all

There is a 7 year age gap between our children. This can present us with some real  challenges, it is not always easy to find activities that they can both enjoy. Really what interests a 4 year old girl, holds absolutely no interest for an 11 year old boy.

Here was what we came up with this weekend.

The weather was much warmer than it looked. I swear!

Guddling in rock pools is an activity for all ages

See! We are never too old :)

Next, we had a stone throwing competition. Choosing the stones was a serious business!

Fraser won! I was rubbish :(

Fraser had throwers regret! He then had to go searching for one that he wished he had kept.

He found it!

I wish I could remember what they were pointing at LOL Murray kind of looks like he is doing the Saturday night fever dance LOL

Frase kept him company though , he looks like he is doing the YMCA!

We didn't catch much. It was a good job we were headed to Granny Mary and Grandad Jimmy's house for our tea. We certainly weren't going to be making much of a contribution!

Although Fraser did find a mussel, who had attached himself to some other rocks by his big long beard. This was an idea that appealed very much to Fraser's 11 year old self.

Success!

Happy Sunday

On a dry spring afternoon we spent some much needed time in our winter ravaged garden.

Some new growth just peeking through

Kirsten's garden

And a very dirty see saw! Never mind some good old soap and water will fix that.

little hands helped all the way

Kirsten with one of our guinea pigs. This one is Lu Lu

They are lucky little souls, Granny Mary keeps them well stocked with fresh salad, veg and grass. Can you tell? LOL They start yelling as soon as they hear her voice, it is hilarious. I love the noise they make.

This one is Bee Bee with the "hooooge tummy"

All done! and the grass is ready to start growing again.

I am looking forward to spending time in the sunshine in our garden, it is tiny but is is all ours.

A wee furry face watching us through the window

Happy Mother's Day

Wishing a very Happy and family filled day to all of the Mother's out there. It is not always easy but it is always worth it.

Thankyou to my own amazing Mum,  her love , patience, support, guidance and wonderful spirit knows no boundaries and I have never met anyone who can love unconditionally like she does.

If I could be one tenth the Mother that she is, then I will feel content in myself as a Mum.

I didn't write this and have no idea who did, but I think it is lovely.

A mother is someone to shelter and guide us,

To love us, whatever we do,
With a warm understanding and infinite patience
And wonderful gentleness, too.
How often a mother means swift reassurance
In soothing our small, childish fears,
How tenderly mothers watch over their children
And treasure them all through the years!
The heart of a mother is full of forgiveness
For any mistake, big or small,
And generous always in helping her family,
Whose needs she has placed above all.
A mother can utter a word of compassion
And make all our cares fall away,
She can brighten a home with the sound of her laughter
And make life delightful and gay.
A mother possesses incredible wisdom
And wonderful insight and skill -
In each human heart is that one special corner
Which only a mother can fill!

I am also so fortunate to have the most amazing Mother in Law who is also worthy of every word written above.

I was spoiled by my wonderful children this morning. I was awakened by our favourite "special day breakfast" of homemade pancakes, bacon and golden syrup, IN BED! They each made me a beautiful handmade card and Kirsten had sewn a lovely little gift for me at playgroup! Yes! She is starting young! I will add photos but I am having a problem uploading today.

Just so I can be sure to add a pic , here is one of me being a Mummy.

And you can just see my own beautiful Mummy peeking in the corner

Happy Sunday

Pink, pink and pussycats!

Well that is the parties over until December. I am a bit relieved, it is nice to have no deadlines!

I think my girly enjoyed her party, I managed to tie the themes of pinks and pussycats together in the end. There were a few ideas missing from the actual party, but really, these were things that K felt we didn't really need. At the end of the day my aim was to give her the party she had imagined and one she would enjoy. Check and check. In line with my New years resolution I even managed to let go of some of my perfectionism! I am quite proud! lol

Here are some pics of the fun

All set up

Fraser and I painted this banner for her

The flags using the same idea as last year

Here they are all scrubbed up

The detail on K's dress, I loved this dress and can't wait until she has another excuse to wear it!

Sparkly party shoes too, what more could a girl want?

The table, no one ate anything LOL they must have been having too much fun!

The pinkest pink cupcakes I could make!

K fell in love with this Hello Kitty cake while shopping for icing for the Pink cat cake we had planned. It was her party so she could get what she wanted. It wasn't pink, but it was a cat!

Face painting

Look! We even had a guest dressed in a full Kitty costume!

Here are the party bags. Not quite what I wanted for the actual bags, I made little cloth bags last year but 2 of the girls were the same so I didn't want to do exactly the same thing. In the end I just bought pink gift bags and they were all happy enough.

Inside was a toy Kitty I made from felt, a handmade notebook, 2 crayon "cakes" , some bubbles and I popped in some Birthday cake.
We made some placemats with the kids which they also got to take home. There are no pics as we kind of needed all hands on deck at that point and no hands were fee to take pics.

All of the Kitty's were different they were either a different colour or had different dresses.Their faces were all slightly different as they were sewn by hand, and I am not so good at sewing by hand. The white ones did not photograph well and you can't see the sweet pink whiskers

Happy Birthday to my Big girl who is 4! Looking forward to seeing what she will think up next year!
